Rishabh Pant's Somersault Celebration: Doctor Reacts with 'Unnecessary!'
Rishabh Pant's dynamic batting display during the first Test against England at Leeds, featuring two impressive centuries, was somewhat overshadowed by his post-century celebration – a somersault that has ignited considerable discussion.
Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, the surgeon who played a crucial role in Pant's recovery following his serious car accident in December 2022, shared his thoughts on the viral celebration with The Telegraph. He noted, "Rishabh trained as a gymnast. Although he looks large, he is quite agile, and he does have a lot of flexibility. And, that’s why he’s been doing those somersaults of late. It’s a well-practiced and perfected move — unnecessary though!"
Pant's return to cricket is truly remarkable. The near-fatal accident on December 30, 2022, involved his car colliding with a divider while driving from Delhi to Roorkee, resulting in extensive injuries that sidelined him for a significant period.
Against England, Pant showcased his prowess in Test cricket, scoring a blazing 134 in the first innings and following it up with a solid 118 in the second. However, despite his efforts, India was unable to defend a target of 371 and lost by five wickets.
Pant's performance record in England highlights his affinity for challenging conditions. In 10 Tests, he has accumulated 808 runs at an average of 42.52, which includes four centuries and two half-centuries, with his highest score being a memorable 146.
