Once hailed as a future star of Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw has openly discussed the challenges that have hampered his once-promising career.
In a recent interview, the 25-year-old cricketer admitted that poor choices, distractions, and altered priorities contributed to his decline, both on and off the field.
"There are a lot of things... I have taken a lot of wrong decisions in life. I started giving less time to cricket. I admit that there was a distraction,” Shaw told News24. He elaborated, "I made some wrong friends... Then they took me here and there... I got away from the track. I used to give 8 hours of practice on the ground. Now it is 4 hours."
Shaw enjoyed a sensational Test debut in 2018, scoring a century against the West Indies. This led to comparisons with legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. However, a lack of discipline and fitness ultimately led to his downfall. He faced consequences ranging from being dropped by Mumbai due to poor fitness to going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction.
Now, the right-handed opener aims to revitalize his career. Shaw has officially severed ties with the Mumbai Cricket Association and will be seeking a fresh start with Maharashtra as a professional player.
In a letter to the MCA, Shaw conveyed his gratitude for their support but emphasized the necessity of this move for his personal growth. Although he made brief reappearances, including a stint in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, consistent performances eluded him.
With a new state team, a rejuvenated mindset, and a candid acknowledgment of his past errors, Prithvi Shaw is determined to turn over a new leaf. Whether this marks the beginning of a comeback or a gradual departure from elite cricket remains uncertain. For now, he is committed to taking the challenging path back to success.
