"Whether Jasprit Bumrah is fit or not, I think Kuldeep Yadav has to come into the team... the Birmingham pitch will be one where there will be just a little bit of help for the wrist spinner," Gavaskar stated.

Thakur's recent performance, marked by limited impact with both bat and ball, has fueled Gavaskar's call for change. Despite taking two wickets in consecutive balls, his overall contribution was deemed insufficient.

India Sweat it out at the Nets in Birmingham Ahead of the 2nd Test vs England

While Kuldeep Yadav's previous Test experience in England was unremarkable, Gavaskar believes his bowling variety could prove invaluable on the Birmingham pitch.

Gavaskar's Perspective on Middle Order Concerns

Gavaskar also addressed the performance of the middle order, particularly debutant Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair. Both batsmen were dismissed for ducks in the first innings, contributing to a collapse.

While advocating for patience, Gavaskar hinted at potential changes if the situation worsens. He mentioned Washington Sundar as a potential option to strengthen both the batting and bowling departments.

"If things don't go well in the second Test, maybe Sai (Sudharsan) and Karun (Nair)... Then I'd also look at Washington (Sundar), so that it really gives you a more solid batting, and also get a little more variety as far the bowling is concerned," he explained.
