Jon Lewis, the head coach of the UP Warriorz in the Women's Premier League (WPL), has concluded his tenure with the franchise. The team announced the departure via a social media statement on Friday, June 27, marking the end of a three-year association.
The former English fast bowler initially brought success to the Warriorz during the inaugural WPL season. Under his guidance, the franchise secured a third-place finish in 2023, eventually being knocked out by the Mumbai Indians, who went on to win the championship.
However, the team's performance declined in the subsequent seasons of 2024 and 2025. They finished 4th in 2024 and ended up at the bottom of the table in 2025. The UPW struggled with consistency and team equilibrium throughout the season, leading to a disappointing result, also due to injuries to key players and Deepti Sharma's captaincy in 2025.
Notably, the Warriorz still hold the record for the highest team total in WPL history, having scored 225 for 5 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. This record-breaking feat was achieved earlier this year, largely thanks to Georgia Voll's impressive unbeaten 99.
During his time with the Warriorz, Lewis simultaneously served as the head coach of the England Women's team, fulfilling a dual role since his appointment in November 2022. His departure from the UP Warriorz follows a challenging period, as he also resigned from his England position in March after the team's 16-0 defeat to Australia in the Women's Ashes.
