Rishabh Pant Poised to Join Elite Cricket Club After Headingley Heroics

Following his impressive performance at Headingley, Rishabh Pant stands on the verge of joining an elite group of visiting batsmen. Rishabh Pant eyes cricket greatness in England

Rishabh Pant aims to solidify his place among cricket's elite.

In the first Test at Leeds, Pant showcased his explosive batting prowess with scores of 134 and 118. His dazzling array of strokes in both innings was a treat for fans. Despite India's five-wicket defeat after setting England a target of 371, Pant's audacious shot-making and resilience stood out as the highlight of the match.

He currently boasts 808 runs in 10 Tests in England, averaging 42.52 with four centuries. Notably, his highest score on English soil is 146 off just 111 balls, achieved at Edgbaston in 2022. In that innings, he rescued India from a precarious 98 for 5, helping them post a first-innings total of 416. Although India ultimately lost the match, Pant's innings remains a testament to his exceptional talent as an Indian wicketkeeper overseas.

Leeds to Birmingham: On the road with TOI Sports

Should Pant score another century at Edgbaston, he will become only the seventh visiting batter to achieve the remarkable feat of scoring centuries in three successive Tests in England. The esteemed list currently includes Don Bradman, Warren Bardsley, Charles Macartney, Brian Lara, Rahul Dravid, and Daryl Mitchell. Dravid is the only Indian on that list, having accomplished this milestone in 2002.

Pant, already holding the record for the most centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper and the most runs by an Asian gloveman in SENA countries, now has a significant opportunity to further cement his legacy in cricket history.
