Mohammed Kaif suggests that Yashasvi Jaiswal's dropped catches in the recent Test against England may be due to the straps he wears on his hands. Kaif explains that these straps restrict finger movement, preventing a secure grip on the ball.

Yashasvi Jaiswal's performance in the field has come under scrutiny after a series of dropped catches during the recent Test match against England. Former Indian cricketer, Mohammad Kaif, has offered a potential explanation for the young player's struggles.

Yashasvi Jaiswal misses a catch during the Test match

Jaiswal's costly errors in the slips during the Leeds Test proved detrimental, contributing to India's five-wicket defeat as England successfully chased down a target of 371.

In the first innings, Ollie Pope was given a reprieve when Jaiswal failed to hold onto a thick edge off Jasprit Bumrah's bowling. Jaiswal's inability to secure the catch allowed Pope to capitalize and score a valuable 106 runs.

Later in the same innings, Harry Brook also benefited from Jaiswal's fielding woes. Brook edged Bumrah towards fourth slip, where Jaiswal failed to grasp what should have been a straightforward catch.

Adding to the frustration, Jaiswal dropped Ben Duckett in England’s second innings. Duckett went on to score a match-winning 149.

Kaif believes that the strap Jaiswal wears around his hand may be a contributing factor to the dropped catches.

"Why is Yashasvi Jaiswal dropping catches? We are practicing with Duke’s ball, and when we get hurt, we put a strap," Kaif explained in a video posted on X.

"In such a situation, the fingers are stuck and there is no free movement. You can’t hold onto the catch because the strap becomes a sponge."

"The ball bounces off it, so that’s the drawback. The natural connection with the ball shouldn’t be lost."

India will aim to bounce back in the second Test against England, which begins on July 2 in Birmingham.
